    What to Expect

    A Bharatanatyam & Kathak jugalbandi that blossoms from years of sadhana, friendship, and love for the art. Two professional artists and eight live musicians come together to create an unforgettable evening of Music & Dance.

    About This Event

    Choreographed and performed by Shambhavi Dandekar and Jyotsna Vaidee, this work is more than a collaboration — it is a conversation of souls. Through rhythm, stillness, storytelling, and silence, they explore the beautiful tension between duality and oneness… between you and I, form and formless, self and self-realized.

    Accompanying them is a live orchestra that brings together the musical worlds of the North and South, creating a soundscape as rich and interconnected as the theme itself.

    Meet the Artists

    Jyotsna Vaidee

    @jyotsnavaidee_samudradance

    Jyotsna is a dedicated Bharatanatyam artist whose journey began at the age of five. What started as a childhood passion has evolved into a lifelong mission to perform, choreograph, and teach. Trained in India under the eminent gurus of the Kalakshetra tradition—including Padma Bhushan Prof. C.V. Chandrasekhar, the Aravindaksans, and the Kunhiramans—her dance is celebrated for its precise nritta (pure dance) and a deeply communicative approach to abhinaya (expression).

    A multi-faceted professional, Jyotsna balances her artistic life with a career as a visionary Product Manager at Google, holding a Master’s in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She views creativity as the common thread that drives excellence in both art and technology.

    In addition to her solo career, which has spanned prestigious festivals in India, Canada, and the US, she has performed extensively with Lata Pada’s Sampradaya Dance Creations and the contemporary company NATyA. Today, she continues to share her expertise through her dance school in the San Francisco Bay Area.

    Shambhavi Dandekar

    @shambhavi_dandekar

    Shambhavi is a distinguished Kathak artist whose foundation was laid by her mother, Guru Pandita Maneesha Sathe, and further refined in the aesthetics of Laya and Tala under the legendary Tabla virtuoso Pandit Suresh Talwalkar. This rigorous training is complemented by a Master’s in Dance and diplomas in French and Sanskrit, blending deep traditional roots with a strong academic background.

    A member of the International Dance Council (UNESCO) and a high-grade artist for Indian National Television, Shambhavi has performed at prestigious festivals across India, the USA, Japan, and Australia. Her artistry—recognized with titles such as Singaar Mani and Nritya Ratna—is celebrated for its unparalleled storytelling and its ability to bridge traditional repertoire with innovative masterpieces.

    In 2010, she founded Shambhavi’s International School of Kathak (SISK) to foster a global community for the art form. Since relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2012, Shambhavi has focused her expertise on mentoring advanced students and teachers across the United States, continuing her mission to impart Kathak with both technical precision and modern vision.
